I have a lot of guinea pig pencils because I don't really draw with them all that much and keep compulsively buying them at the art shop! 😆 But I do love a nice snail-length Neocolor.
I want to go to the Derwent Pencil Museum, my dream one day! Love your illustrations of the pencils. My best pencil is currently 2 centipedes long, I need to restock! x
The most incredible post ever Nanette and I've missed it 😂 did I tell you my nickname is snail? 🙈 so my measurement must be snails of course, my favourite one got about 2 adult snails + 1 baby snail. The comments are also really fun to read :)
Haha! There must be a great story behind your nickname! I love that you included adult and baby snails in your measuring, I can visualise that snail family! 🐌 🐌 🐌
This is such a fun, charming, heart lifting episode of your substack.
You are SO good at these!
Aaaand a really lovely ‘perception interrupt’ piece too (which I’ve been thinking about loads: Hmmmm which is my favourite pencil du jour? - a caran d’ache pale olive crayon today, which measures one small dachshund-in-alert -mode long).
Also I’m looking at the world in a really pleasing near and far away, way: shutting one eye and measuring tiny and large things in imaginary pencil lengths. It’s making me really chuckle and engage differently.
Thank you Susannah! It's so nice to hear you loved it and it's got you doing imaginary measuring 😆 bringing in the near and far away aspect is a whole other level!!
Best post ever and yes, yes I did immediately grab a Blackwing and a guinea pig to check 😆
😆 I'm so glad the maths held true!!
I love that you have both. My kinda gal
it's the only way to live!
Haha! I love this so much! My current fave pencil is about 1/2 a quokka long.
I had to google a quokka - how amazing are they!!??!! That is an extra sweet unit of measurement! 🥰
They're so adorable!!! One of our most-loved animals in Australia <3
This has made me so happy I'm almost crying.
Yes, it is an extreme reaction.
It's made me so very happy to hear that! 🥹 🥰
Who knew pencils and animals would have that effect on me?
hahaha!!
I love that Guinea pig pencil so much! 😍😍😍
Haha! Thank you so much Jane! 🥰
my favourite colours are about a mouse long! I can hardly find them in the box, but they're still there...
The favourite ones always wear down so quickly! I love the idea of a load of mouse pencils nestled together in a box! 🐭 🐭 🐭
Me too! I love little mice!

Yes! The lengths of Neocolours!! I have those ranging from an elephant's toenail down to a mouse's foot! 😆

It’s such a fun museum! 2 centipedes is definitely getting very small! Also a fabulous unit of measurement!
Hmm I've a few at a guinea pigs leg, and one that I love which is a half a pig that makes me sad (holbein) 😅🤧
A Guinea Pig’s leg!! 🤣 Love that as a measurement!!
Such a fun post! Mine is 5 ants and running out!
Oh no! Just 5 ants! It’s always a bit of a worry when they’re running out because by then you love that pencil so much!
My current pencil is approaching the ant size (at length at least) because I've been using it a lot!
That sounds like a very hard working pencil! And artist!

I adore this :')
Thank you! And I adore your Substack, I've just subscribed, I LOVE it! 🥰
My life’s mission is now to see a four elephant long pencil 🙌
You just have to pop to the City Museum in St Louis, Missouri!! 🐘 🐘 🐘 🐘
Who knows....one day I’ll make it across the Atlantic! 🌊
This is such a fun, charming, heart lifting episode of your substack.

This is super cute and was an adorable way to discover your substack. My favourite pencil would be one mouse long or about 14 ladybugs. 🐭🐞
Measuring in ladybugs!!! That's genius!! 😆
I absolutely love this :)
It was so much fun to put together! So glad you like it! 🥰
