Comfort swim. I head to the river and swim till I’m no longer cold, then dive under, the sound and colours change and everything feels better. Sometimes I’m accompanied by kingfishers, ducks and turquoise damsel flies. Other times it’s just pond skaters and midges that I pretend are fairies 🧚🏿‍♀️. The missoni stripes of the trees reflected in the river never ceases to produce wonder and calm.

I draw whatever green life is around me—trees, small plants, grasses. 🍃

That sounds perfect! There's so much to get lost in with drawing plants and grasses, like exploring another world!

My comfort place is knitting or crochet. I stick a nice arty youtube video on my ipad and balancing it on my lap get lost in another world while I'm making something. I love your drawings, so beautifully loose yet so accurate. I wish drawing was my comfort place, I need the practice!😆

Oooh, this sounds such a great combination! I love knitting, you can somehow be productive while also relaxing - but I wouldn't call my end results successful in any way! 😆 🧶

Hi Teresa! What lovely plants they are! It must be so good to track how they grow and change, I can totally see the comfort in that. Cuddling a cat is an excellent way to be comforted too!

Mine is drawing silly fish. They always turn out well, they make me laugh, they make the others at home laugh too, they marvel, they say how beautiful everything is, and the self-confidence returns while I fill a few pages. Win-win. :-)

Going for a walk in a forest. Or drawing animals, they’re my favourite and what I find easy, especially horses and foxes!

Love your desk drawings and colour palette you used.

Oh wow - finding horses easy to draw is very impressive! I'm totally with you on walking in a forest, being amongst a load of tall trees is really calming!

These are all really beautifully loose drawings 😍 if I’m feeling creatively wobbly I usually go back to a little dragon character that I draw on the regular but have no story ideas for 😅 if I’m feeling generally wobbly I do comfort bake, swim and I watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Nearly obsessively because it’s so familiar to me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Friends is a really good comfort blanket, it's so familiar you can drop into any random episode and feel at home! Your little dragon character sounds great, the story ideas can't be far behind if the dragon keeps turning up!

Love this! My comfort art changes over time. It's often whichever character is stuck in my head. Or I tend to come back to trees a lot. Recently I had a break through on drawing child proportions so I've been drawing kids being little menaces all through my sketchbook

Little menaces sounds like lots of fun! Child proportions can be so tricky sometimes, congratulations on your breakthrough! Trees are a really good comfort draw, so many interesting shapes and they stay nice and still while you're drawing!

I always draw faces for comfort! Pretty people, unusual people, famous paintings. Mainly from Pinterest, so I don't have to make many choices. Just drawing what I see, and eyes, ears, noses are so familiar to me now that I can draw them without thinking too much.

That's the sweet spot when you can draw something without thinking too much! Interesting that you use Pinterest, that's a really smart way to take away your choices and avoid the dreaded overwhelm!
