The ink sounds lots of fun too , might add some inks to my Christmas list !
I’ve actually done a bit of collage recently after not having done any for ages, and it’s so much fun . I painted all the different bits , cut them out and stuck them down then adds a bit of detail on procreate .
Thanks for sharing your process , it’s so nice to see 🧡
Oh that's so cool that you add details digitally, I can see that would be a really fun way to draw over it without bumping over the edges all the time! The inks I used were all water soluble which makes the clean up so much easier, I always thought printing at home would be really messy but it's not too bad!
Love seeing other artists play with collage and how differently it all turns out! My collages are pretty straightforward but that living room scene feels a little too familiar of a mess for me, ha! 🙈✂️
I like to "visit" oil pastels. They are a medium I still feel hesitant about because I feel an inherent letting go is necessary before diving in with them, each time, and I'm not always up for that. I usually reach for my watercolors + Neocolor IIs + colored pencils lately.
I know exactly what you mean about oil pastels! They feel slightly out of control but in a more "permanent" way than ink or watercolour. I think there is something about just "visiting" a material that can take the pressure off as I'm more accepting of a less successful end result. You're absolutely right that it's best to reach for whichever material you feel up for at the time!
The feeling definitely has to do with permanence! I do often find myself loving the results after a visit though. I think another part of the hindrance is knowing it would take time to achieve what I want to in that moment and also knowing I don’t have the time.
It looks so good in your picture book!👏🏻 I love making collage papers! Once I’ve made them I use pva glue to stick random torn pieces down, let the glue dry and then paint over with the wet ink and other various materials.☺️
Wonderful I’m with you on collage - I just get lost in the whole process but I do like to add some extra mediums and even some digital if I’m in the mood.
Oh that sounds great Vanessa, what kind of mediums do you add? The whole process is really easy to get lost in, I do love how physical it is - moving those tiny pieces back and forth!
Sometimes I’ve used preprepped backgrounds using acrylics, sometimes watercolour, neocolour, ink - a whole array but it all depends on what I feel in the moment and where I want the picture to go which always gives me wonderful surprises.
So interesting to read Nanette. I love the book especially the squirrel running page turn leading to its house. I love using collage but have started scanning bits in and moving them around digitally so I can keep editing!
Thank you Charlotte! I'm so glad you spotted that page turn, it came out of needing something to balance the composition and suddenly solved two issues at once so I'm quite fond of it! Adding a bit of digital makes a lot of sense, especially if you're doing collage on a client project!
This is beautiful!

This is so lovely Nanette, I do love collage the traditional one! Can't wait to look at your shop 🧡
Thank you so much Teresa! The traditional collage is definitely the most fun! ✂️ 🧡

Haha! Collage really does take over a room doesn’t it?!! 😆
It sure does! 😂
You have a board book there. It so simple and beautiful. I'm in awe!
PS. Your family could make an effort and learn to levitate, they cannot pretend to walk on Artist's territory! :-)
Hahaha! Yes, so selfish of them to want to use the living room! 😆
It all turned out sooo lovely
Thank you so much Martine! That's so lovely of you to say!
Lovely to see the Zine in colour Nanette - Pritt Sticks Forever! And thankyou for the mention :)
Thank you Jane! My brain has been whirring ever since you suggested monoprint textures!

Yes! Pushing against time can really hold things back. Though sometimes a time restraint can make me come up with new ways of doing things!
Love this so much! 🥰
Thank you so much Alina! That's so nice of you! 🥰

Oh that's such a good idea! I can see that glueing the pieces down first would take away blank-page-fear too!
Love the limited palette, really let's the textures sing! The final booklet is super
Hi Elly! It's so lovely to see you over here! 🥰 Thanks so much, I think a limited palette definitely helped stop visual overwhelm!
It's utterly beautiful and brilliant. And I'm grateful to get a glimpse into what went on behind the scenes. That makes it even more lovely. 😍
Ahhh thank you so much Robyn! That's so lovely of you to say! 🩵💛🧡

The wonderful surprises are the best! I love that feeling of going with what feels right in the moment!
